In Loving Memory of
Thong One Vongphakdy
February 13, 1936 – January 15, 2026
Thong One Vongphakdy was the patriarch of his family, extended families, and a deeply respected pillar of his community. His perseverance in helping others—far beyond his own family—knew no limits. Whether in his professional life or personal matters, his work ethic never wavered. A kind and loving man, Thong One consistently placed the happiness and well-being of others before his own.
Thong One Vongphakdy passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 15, 2026, at the age of 89, just one month shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on February 13, 1936, in Nong Nieng, Laos, to Dang Kham Pa and Chan Da. From an early age, he was profoundly influenced by his mother’s unwavering dedication, tireless work, and countless sacrifices. Through her perseverance, she ensured he received a higher education—an opportunity that helped shape the man he became.
Thong One graduated from Laos’ premier educational institution, Lycée Pavi, through his mother’s continuous efforts. Following his education, he began a distinguished military career in the Lao Air Force, later joining the Lao Republic Army. He eventually transitioned into a political career, serving at the Lao Embassy in Vietnam. His military training included instruction from the French military, the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he received advanced strategic and leadership training.
In recognition of his education, dedication, and extensive military experience, Thong One was commissioned as an officer with the rank of Captain in the Lao Republic Army, marking the pinnacle of his military career. He served as a Communications Liaison Officer for the Lao government and its Western allies during the Vietnam Conflict—a role that reflected his leadership, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to service.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Thong One’s greatest love was his family and his unwavering desire to help those in need. Having experienced hardship and helplessness at a young age, he was determined that others would not have to endure the same pain he and his mother once faced. His compassion, generosity, and quiet strength touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Thong One is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lasy; his children, Pakhong, Lammone, Khonkeo, Khonphet, Phongphanh, and Santi; his grandchildren, Timothy, Danny, Tiffany, Valena, Allison, Jonathon, Christina, Claire, Brody, and Cody; and his great-grandchildren, Carter, Leena, Taison, Ellis, Emma, Alanni, Kailer, and Asher.
Thong One Vongphakdy’s legacy of love, service, humility, and strength will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
