Gloria (Debbie) Grandt
Debbie Grandt of Huntley passed away on May 25, 2025 at the age of 85.
Born in Chicago on January 1, 1940 to Fred and Gwendolyn (Hartmann) Grandt. Debbie was a woman who lived with passion, loyalty, love and a strong faith.
Debbie had a big heart especially towards her children, the four-legged, furry kind. She poured dedication and passion into volunteering at the West Suburban (NO KILL) Animal Shelter in Downers Grove for over 40 years. She couldn't say no to her furry friends in need. She personally took in too many to count, her last dog was a fox terrier named Lucky and up until her death a cat named Wally who had health issues. No one was interested in adopting Wally, but Debbie took a once extremely shy skittish cat and turned him into a friendly purring companion.
While living in Del Webb of Huntley, Debbie loved being part of the dance group called the Strutters, a talented group of tap-dancing ladies. Debbie also loved her Del Webb card-playing friends.
Debbie's legacy isn't just the animals she cared for; it's in the memories, love and warmth that she gave to all who knew her. A devout Catholic Debbie attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Grammar School and Saint Benedict's High School.
Through her long journey with diabetic-related health issues, she was positive and seldom complained.
Debbie was proceeded in death by her sister Nancy Temple and her parents.
She was laid to rest in Eden Cemetery in Schiller Park, Illinois on Wednesday May 28th.
A Mass in her honor will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntley - 10307 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL 60142.
