Michael A. Petryniec, 85, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 with his family by his side.
He was born on September 20, 1939 in Chicago Illinois to Joseph and Henrietta (Feoder) Petryniec. He married Mary Ellen DeLeo on May 24, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. Michael worked in administration for the Continental Can Company and was a proud veteran of the US Army.
After moving from Streamwood, Illinois, Michael and Mary Ellen made Huntley their home of the last 22 years. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner at St Mary Catholic Church.
Michael was a stickler for tidiness and organization. He was described as a "finance wizard," and kept an impressive coin collection. But he also took joy in the simple things, like a good cup of coffee, solving a crossword puzzle, and scratching off a lottery ticket. His grandchildren meant everything to him, and awarded him the title of World's Greatest Papa. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Mary Ellen Petryniec; his sons, Joseph (Julie) Petryniec and Vincent Petryniec; two siblings, Howard (Louise) Petryniec and Patricia (Joseph) Provenzano; his grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, and Jenna Petryniec; lifelong friends, Dennis and Sheri Calabrese; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a brother, William (Maureen) Petryniec.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 9am until time of Memorial Mass at 10am, at St. Mary Catholic Church - 10307 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL 60142. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

We will miss your wit and wisdom Mike. You helped me make investment decisions so many times. That generosity is emblematic of who you are and the imprint of your legacy on your Children and Grandchild. Your devotion to them was so evident. You never missed an event or game they participated in and their reverence and love for you in apparent in the glow of their faces in the many pictures they took with you. Your strength and devotion are examples for all of us and we will do our best to model those qualities as a tribute to you. Rest in peace my cousin.;
Sorry for your loss. He was truly one of a kind.
