Frank H. Brown, Jr.

Obituary

Frank H. Brown Jr, age 84, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, January 2, 2025, with his family by his side.

He was born on May 17, 1940 in West Orange, New Jersey to Frank H. Brown Sr. and Grace (Lauterette) Brown. He married Brenda Maccia on August 5, 1967 at St. Paul’s Church in Clifton, New Jersey. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Francis College of Loretto, Pennsylvania where he met his bride and life-partner, Brenda. Frank served as one of the original members of the U.S. Peace Corps in 1963. During his time as a Peace Corps volunteer, he served in Malawi, Africa where he taught at the secondary level. Frank cherished his time in Africa, and regarded it as one of the greatest privileges of his life. After returning to the US, Frank pursued a career in publishing. The majority of his professional career was with the H.M.Gousha Company, a division of Simon & Schuster, New York, as sales executive and Director of Sales.

Frank and his family moved from New Jersey to the Midwest in 1978. He and Brenda were longtime members of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin, Illinois. He was an avid fly fisherman, a protector of the environment, and a most enthusiastic resident of Door County, Wisconsin, where he and Brenda spent so much of their time. Frank and Brenda traveled all over the world, including to countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. However most of all, Frank enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Maccia Brown; children, Christina (Patrick) Brown Maguire of Algonquin, Illinois, Patrick (Lisa Yafchak) Brown of Colleyville, Texas, and Eileen (Josh) Brown Reicher of Lakewood, Illinois; a sister, Maureen Brown Domino, of West Caldwell, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Rogan and Rylan Reicher, Anderson and Finnegan Brown, and Patrick and Tara Maguire.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Brown Cussen, and his beloved golden retriever, Sadie, who we’re sure gave him an enthusiastic welcome at the Rainbow Bridge.

Visitation will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin, on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10:30 am until time of the Memorial Mass at 11:30 am. Rev. Martin Buntov will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the K.I.N.D Fund, c/o UNICEF.

Frank led his life in the way of St. Francis. He extended a helping hand to those in need. During college days he led the Maurice Stokes Club to honor and support the legendary basketball player who was paralyzed in an NBA game. Frank was a beloved teacher and coach at his Peace Corps station in Llongwe, Malawi. And Frank was a lifelong loyal friend. God bless Frank, Brenda and all the Brown children and grandchildren.

Frank was an outstanding individual. I met him at Saint Francis College in 1963. My thoughts and prayers "go out"to his family. It is gratifying to know that Frank is with Jesus, his Savior.
